Drexel's undergraduate thesis - Degrees of Broken Silence: Dartmouth Man, Gay Men, and Women, 1935-1991 - captured much of that history. Mr. Drexel previously authored "Before Paris Burned: Race, Class, and Male Homosexuality on the Chicago South Side, 1935-1960," in Creating a Place for Ourselves: Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Community Histories (Brett Beemyn, ed.).
Mikee Guzman '06 will continue with the progress in recent years including the first Dartmouth PRIDE.

"Gender Diversity: Transgender 101" with Joanne Herman '75
Venue: Kemeny Hall 008
Joanne's presentation attempts to increase awareness and understanding of those who do not conform to gender norms, show how gender non-conformity is not a new issue, and highlight some of the issues raised by gender non-conformity.
After almost half a century living as a male, Joanne Herman '75 transitioned in 2002 to live as a female in order to resolve a gender incongruity she had felt for as long as she remembers. She has since been active in the LGBT community as spokeswoman for transgender awareness and understanding, and is one of the authors of The Dallas Principles. The waiting area of the Women’s Health floor in the new home of Fenway Health, the largest LGBT-focused health center in the world, is named in Joanne’s honor.
Joanne is one of the first openly transgender alumnae of Dartmouth College, as a graduate of the last all-male class. In 2006, Dartmouth President James Wright awarded her a Class of 1975 diploma in her new name.
Joanne holds a BA in Government and Economics from Dartmouth and an MS/MBA from Northeastern University. She is currently Financial Controller at New England Foundation for the Arts and lives in Boston with her fiancée, Theresa (Terry) Fallon. Joanne is also fluent in French and an avid bowler.
